The Lonely Side of Hunter
We all know Hunter College is a commuter school. Students commute from the five boroughs, different cities, some even from different states. Located in the heart of Manhattan, it is inevitable for Hunter to be a stop-and-go place for students. For those looking for a fun, party all day everyday type of college experience, Hunter will be a huge disappointment. Now, in no way am I criticizing Hunter's educational system (we'll save that for a lengthier post), but I am conveying a downside to being at a well known reputable school in the middle of The Big Apple. It gets lonely sometimes. While taking these pictures, I got a little sad myself as I also had a hard time making friends my first year. Even now, there are days I come to class alone, eat lunch alone, do some work alone, then hop on the train to go home alone. What a loner I am.

Artist Statement!
Growing up in Russia right after The Pusch made it a bit difficult for me to discover my artistic side. It wasn't until my first year in America during the 3rd grade that I wrote my first poem. It was called something like "Colors of the Sea" and no, it did not flow and rhyme. That day I went home and wrote another poem. Then another the following day. I had filled up over four notebooks by the time I left elementary school.
My mission as a media artist (as well as an individual on this earth) is to create work that fascinates people while keeping it simple and related to myself. I have always loved working on projects that require me to dig into the deep dark corners of my personality and put them out in the open. I think a lot of the time people tend to keep their personal lives to themselves and therefore build up angst, feel isolated and misunderstood, and seek recognition without presenting anything to recognize. I believe that every single one of us has something they want people to recognize. Whether it’s paintings, writings, or even artist statements - I believe we all have something to share with this confusing and amazing world.
Someone who has truly inspired me to express myself is Woody Allen. His film “Manhattan” really got to me in a an indescribable way. I love the way he portrays all his characters in a way for the audience to not only appreciate their personas, but also to truly “feel” the relationship these characters have with the narrator. The witty scenes and his clever humor pave the way to an admirable and hilarious movie, while keeping it a hear-warming and personal piece of art.
